ED ready for crackdown
In a sign of greater things to come the Zimbabwe Republic Police is training a further 400 anti-riot police officers in Shamva as Emmerson administration gears up for crackdown against civil society and opposition parties.
This is the second batch to undergo the intense paramilitary training this year after the first one earlier. Lately the Harare administration has banned all demos or protests called by civil society and the opposition MDC.
Dangwe News has it on good authority the 400 were all drawn from the country’s 10 provinces with each providing 10. There are worries within the Police circles as some fear these are not real Police Officers but ZanuPF youths being trained in order to crush any protests that might take place in the country. Our source on the ground revealed to us three of the instructors are a known ZanuPf people with one of them a chairperson in Maunganidze Village of Birchenough Bridge. ‘Zanu is preparing for any protests and I’m telling you people are going to be brutalized, these guys use their youths. There is a lot going on here we have the economy on one side, then the element of big surprise from G40 gangs also.’
Dangwe News was able to verify names of the three instructors given by Shamva man and all attended ZanuPF’s last conference. Speaking last year while giving evidence before 1 August killings Commission former ZanuPf youth Chairman Jimmy Kunaka told Commissioners of how the party youths are given police and army uniforms. The ruling party youths are known for being very violent and should they be the ones under going training then it can only get worse. Most of the trainees are under the age of 35 mostly recruited based on height and body structure.
We were not able to independently verify if there are any threats from G40 or it is pure speculation. Recently the Harare Administration has increased security for the President with over 40 State agents surrounding him each time he appears in public. Mnangagwa is under serious pressure as the economy continues to nose dive with prices of basic food stuff now beyond the reach of many.
Albert Sibanda a street vendor in Harare CBD believes a crackdown is already in place, ‘Check how MDC cannot hold a demo, last week Hami died. This is a lockdown already and we all being made cowards good with social media posts ana Job vanyarara wani’. The MDC legislator mention Mr Job Sikhala was recently charged with treason and out on bail.
